You cannot *** juvenile turtles safely. When they get older, look at the tail from underneath and find the vent. If the vent is under the upper shell, you have a female or a juvenile male. The vent of a mature male will be beyond the edge of the upper shell. If the paint is a male, it will develop long front claws as well.</description>
